The following diagram shows how an active system generally works.
AmericanTower installs a neutral host distributed antenna system inside the venue. The main equipment room is typically located in the basement or ground floor of the building. Wireless service providers install their base stations in the equipment room, and simply "plug and play" on the American Tower system. Visitors to the mall, casino or other venue experience seamless wireless coverage.
